Southern Belles began as a home-based business in 1986 that started as a hobby. Susie Molony created handpainted designs on children's play clothes, tote bags, canvas shoes, hair bows, etc., and eventually evolved to appliqued and embroidered designs to allow her to meet the overwhelming demand for her designs.

After several years of selling her line at home shows and fundraising/benefit markets all over the country, Susie opened a storefront in the Northcutt Plaza Specialty Shops in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. While Susie no longer manufactures her own line, her experience as a designer has been a valuable skill when she buys merchandise.

Over the years Southern Belles has become one of the finest children's specialty shops in the country due to the diverse and unique inventory that makes for an exceptional shopping experience. Southern Belles' longevity and customer loyality are a result of our highly qualified, knowledgeable and, most importantly, people oriented staff. The staff consists of a very diverse group of experienced salespeople, who have a long history of meeting the need to make each child special!

Southern Belles has been spotlighted in Charleston Magazine, the Post & Courier Newspaper and the City Paper. For the past three years (2004-2006) Southern Belles has been voted Charleston's Best Children's Shop!
